The Government of Ghana (GoG) in collaboration with UNICEF WASH Programme, has instituted the Sanitation Marketing (SanMark) Programme as part of the Rural Sanitation Model. This project is being implemented in the Northern, Savanna, Upper East, Upper West, Volta, Oti and Central regions in partnership with the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources (MSWR), the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD), TREND, KNUST and RUFINLIT.
The programme is aimed at increasing access to basic sanitation facilities by households and is expected to achieve at least 80% improved sanitation coverage in each districts of implementation. This will enable households have access to affordable, safe, durable and improved latrines for those who are deprived of improved latrines.
The Pilot District Sanitation Fund is implemented in eight (8) districts within six (6) regions under the SanMark programme. Through a competitive selection process, Global Impact Foundation (GIF) FNGO was selected to administer the fund allocated for the Kadjebi District Assembly. GIF has since been working in several communities in the district and has received 63 applications from household to construct improved latrines at a concessionary credit terms. It has so far delivered 16 of various latrine types for households in the Dapaa and Yadzo communities.
